Scientific paper

Intended for users with little or no scientific background as well as highly technical readers, the User's Guide provides an overview of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's hourly short-wave radio bulletins that provide continually updated information on solar-activity-induced effects on the near-Earth space environment. It also provides a step-by-step explanation of the standardized format and terminology of the bulletins. Specific terms are highlighted and defined in a glossary. Bulletins are 45 seconds or less in duration and contain a large amount of useful data. Until now, no attempt has been made to provide a systematic method of their use by other than highly technically trained listeners.
