FOR the diagnosis of the degree of lead poisoning the determination of lead in urine is very important although not easy. In the case of chronic poisoning the amount of lead in urine is not much larger than in normal urine samples, in which the lead concentration is very low (up to 80 γ/l.). Therefore the direct determination of lead in freshly voided urine without decomposition of the sample by ashing or by digestion with oxidizing acid is difficult. Some attempts have been made to overcome these difficulties and to determine lead without preliminary concentration, but they have not given satisfactory results.
