The advantage of using large telescopes for certain infrared observations lies in their high spatial and spectral resolution. Infrared observations of extragalactic sources of centers of star formation, and of the Crab nebulae pulsar are cited as characteristic high resolution examples. Simultaneous application of X-ray, infrared, and radio source detection have made it possible to resolve fine structure, as for the 2.2 mu flare in Cyg X-3.
