Personal response systems or clickers have become a popular tool in enabling students to actively participate in the lecture setting. They have been shown to improve understanding of the course material via peer instruction. Clickers were used for the first time in the ASTR 101 course at Joliet Junior College in Fall 07. About 160 students used the clickers to respond to peer instruction questions and reading quizzes. The impact of clickers on student learning of introductory astronomy material at Joliet Junior College is being studied and initial results will be presented.
