Cosmological Constant, Universe: Collapse
Scientific paper
An upper bound for the cosmological constant is obtained for a universe which recollapses and is closed. The bound is at least three orders of magnitude smaller than the weak anthropic upper bound obtained recently by Weinberg for a universe that does not recollapse and is flat (k = 0). It is pointed out that the recollapsing, closed universe is equally compatible with the weak anthropic principle. The implications of the smaller upper bound on Λ for cosmology are briefly discussed, and possible alternatives to present theories are briefly described.
