A reconsideration of observations of Comet Swift-Tuttle in 1862 and 1992
leads to new extrapolations for its future behavior suggesting that
there is no danger of earth collision during the next millennium. The
persistently small distance between the orbits of the two objects
nevertheless renders this comet an ineluctable eventual threat.
