The paper discusses the current fleet of launch vehicles that support U.S. DOD requirements and the general policy and future plans of the USAF Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC). The SMC current launch programs include those of the Atlas and Delta families of vehicles, the Pegasus launch vehicle, and Taurus. The upper stages that are presently in use include the Payload-Assist Module D, the Transfer Orbit Stage, the Inertial Upper Stage, the Centaur, the Titan I to IV vehicles, the SSTO, the NASP, and two advance upper stages (electrical and solar powered). These systems are briefly described.
