We request 1.5 nights (or 3x0.5 nights if in October or November) of KPNO 4meter time to complete imaging for the Deep Lens Survey (DLS). The DLS, a deep imaging survey aimed at deriving cosmological parameters from cosmic shear and cluster counts, is tantalizingly close to completion after ~ 120 nights of time. Most areas have been completed; the one exception is F1, which has suffered from a higher- than-average amount of poor weather and poor seeing. Until now, we have observed in R only when the seeing is better than 0.9 arcsec, to insure the best resolution for lensing analyses (BVz are primarily for photometric redshifts). As a result, the R-band imaging in this field is not to survey depth and not even uniform within the field. We propose to finish F1 to survey depth in R. Although seeing conditions may not be optimal for lensing, bringing the DLS to uniform photometric depth will enable community use of the data. If seeing conditions are good, we will proceed with a uniform lensing analysis of all five DLS fields as planned. If not, we will still find partial lensing uses for F1, including shear selection of massive clusters, and a shallow cosmic shear probe to complement the deeper probes in the other fields.
