Scientific paper

This paper reviews solar neutrino observations giving emphasis to measurements carried out at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. Characteristics of solar neutrinos are reported. Observations are discussed together with a recent controversy between the Solar Standard Model predictions and the helioseismology. The impact of future solar neutrino measurements and the role of the Gran Sasso laboratory are discussed.
