Based on the formalism of the atomic configuration probability and the occupation probability for interpreting pressure ionization of stellar gases, the author investigated the uncertainties in the formalism for pressure ionization and their influences on solar opacity calculations. Bound-free absorption for heavy elements is found to be affected by the effect of pressure ionization, which possibly reduce the solar interior opacity considerably. He also calculated solar evolutionary models using opacity data computed with different formalisms for pressure ionization. The results indicate the sensitivities of the calculation of solar evolutionary models to the opacity data.
