High and low resolution spectra of HZ Her are being examined to probe the primary site of line emission. The N V emission lines show a very small range of velocities; they must be formed in the X-ray "heated" hemisphere of the mass donor, within which lies the barycentre of the system. Line fluxes from low resolution spectrophotometry are being compared with simple models to investigate the spatial distribution of the line forming regions.
