The UV energy distribution between 1365 and 2740 A in the spectrum of the B3e star HD 200775 is investigated using observations made with the S2/68 UV spectrophotometer aboard the TD 1 satellite. The data show that the star has a flat energy distribution over this spectral region and that the most prominent feature is the interstellar extinction bump at 2175 A. It is found that this feature is much smaller than expected from the visual colors of the star, that Fe III is probably present in emission at 1920 A, and that there is a flux deficiency shortward of about 1600 A with respect to main sequence stars. Analysis of the UV extinction curve indicates that total extinction is better correlated with bump strength than with (B-V) color excess. It is suggested that the star is only weakly reddened, and energy fluxes are derived on the assumption of a normal reddening law consistent with the bump strength. It is concluded that the observed anomalies can be explained in terms of strong line blocking in a hot extended atmosphere.
