This note describes a low power ultrasoft X-ray source stabilized to
plus or minus 1 per cent. The instrument was successfully employed in
assembly of facilities for calibration and test of image multiwire
proportional counters and glancing-incidence optics to be carried in a
focussing X-ray astronomy payload.
