The distribution of the residuals from photoelectrically determined epochs of minima has been studied during two recent outbursts of U Cephei. It has been shown that during the second outburst, in 1974, a long-term change of the period of the system occurred. Furthermore, it appears that deformations of the descending branch of the light curves, caused by the presence of gas streams, produce fictitious changes of the orbital period.
