U, B, V photoelectric photometry of HD 77581 for February-June 1980 is reported which confirms the Khruzine and Cherepashchuk (1982) long period (93.3-day) variability in the form and amplitude of the optical light curves. It is suggested that this variability is due to forced precession of the rotation axis of the optical B0.5 Ib star, which in turn induces changes in the eclipsing gas streams and accretion structure around the relativistic object in this binary system. The supernova explosion may have served to tilt the optical star rotation axis relative to the orbit plane.
