An analysis of data from the Iakutsk meridional riometer chain is presented, indicating the presence of two precipitation zones. One is the commonly observed energetic-electron precipitation zone near 66-67 deg corrected geomagnetic latitude. The other zone, previously not observed, occurs near the minimum of the 11-year solar cycle in the morning sector. This latter zone is characterized by a maximum number of cases of riometric absorption around 10 LT near 71 deg corrected geomagnetic latitude. This zone features pronounced pitch-angle diffusion.
