Results are presented for a study designed to determine the long-term optical behavior of the Seyfert-type galaxy 0934.5+01 and the compact galaxy PKS2201+04. The classification of these two galaxies on the basis of observed spectra suggests that both might be optically variable. The Harvard Observatory archive plate collection was examined to determine whether the two galaxies are variable and, if so, the nature of the variability. The variability detected for PKS2201+04 confirms its identification as a BL Lacertae object. However, substantial portions of the history of optical variability for both sources could not be determined either because the sources were too faint to be detected on the Harvard archive plates or because there were too few plates available during particular periods.
