The problem of determining the preliminary orbits of satellites from measurement results is considered. Formulas are obtained which make it possible to estimate the parameters of the orbit plane, followed by a calculation of the remaining elements. Perturbation due to the asphericity of the earth and the lunar and solar gravitational attraction is taken into account in the orbit determination. The method is most effective in processing data on satellites in high earth orbit.
