The observational possibilities opened up by recent advances in infrared astronomical technology are discussed. The mysteries concerning the origin of stars, the center of the Galaxy, and galaxies undergoing collision that can be resolved by the new technology are briefly reviewed. Technical advances expected in infrared astronomy are briefly described.
