The response of a rotating Maclaurin spheroid to a close encounter with
a rapidly moving point mass is examined for the relation between the
shape, rotation and pressure anisotropy. The spheroid is simulated with
20,000 stars in a collision-free system and the self-consistent solution
obtained computationally by using fast Fourier transform methods.
