The relationships between the IMF and hydromagnetic energy in the band 20-50 mHz, as measured on the ground near a dayside magnetopause field line, are examined quantitatively. For this band, the distribution of signal frequencies as a function of IMF magnitude has two distinct branches. In one branch, signal frequency is independent of IMF magnitude, while the other branch shows signal frequency as a linear function of IMF magnitude similar to the results of Gul'elmi (1974). The sources of these branches are discussed.
