A total of 145 vibration-rotation bands are used to compute the transmission for a clear Venus atmosphere in the region near 10 microns. Synthetic spectra for each layer of a seven-layer model atmosphere show that the atmosphere is effectively black below 40 km above the surface. Comparison of calculated transmission with laboratory measurements shows good agreement up to 759 K.
