Intercosmos-19 data are used to examine the effect of radio wave focusing (the window effect) at the ionospheric critical frequency upon transionospheric sounding. It is shown that the dynamic range of the group delay along the propagation path significantly exceeds the instrument error in the measurement of this parameter. The energy characteristics of the sounding duct make it possible to observe signals beginning with satellite elevation angles of 10 deg. The cutoff frequency is determined by the critical frequency in the ionosphere maximum as well as by the satellite elevation angle.
