The hydraulic vibration facility HYDRA can perform independent accelerations in six degrees of freedom simultaneously. This ability could be used for low frequency random excitation and transient tests. In comparison to sine sweep tests the random and transient tests are very short and are considered less dangerous for the payload and attached elements. Of major importance is the input data processing. The module "Funfit" presents a method for preparation of random and transient tests, ultimately applying launch accelerations to the payload, but with drastically reduced displacements. The dynamic force spectrum and frequency content is fully preserved using Funfit. The transient tests are controlled in the time domain, allowing manual notching similar to sine sweep tests. The output of random and transient tests can be analysed in the frequency domain by Fourier transformation. The tool "3D Analysis" permits offline calculation of transmission functions with respect to the three- and six-dimensional world. The paper presents the possibilities of HYDRA for transient testing and the associated software modules "Funfit" and "3D Analysis".
