The design of a space mission is a long procedure where a lot of interconnected parameters come into play. This paper deals with the pre-flight analysis of the aerodynamics aspects of the EXPERT project. To this aims the VKI plasmatron is adapted to reproduce the thermal history of the complete flight trajectory to test the nose material in real condition. Plasma tests have been realized, as well, to determine the effective wall catalycity of the PM 1000 material used for the vehicle body.
