The feasibility of a technological precursor flight to some near-earth asteroids was investigated. The search was driven by the requirement to use technologies already existing, or in advanced phase of development, in the Italian space community. Launch opportunities with Atlas/Centaur and Space Transportation System (STS) were considered in the 1995-2010 time span. The trajectory parameters obtained guarantee acceptable fly-by conditions for a scientific reconnaisance mission. The possibility of using solar electric propulsion during the cruise phase was also analyzed in a couple of cases with interesting results.
