We describe steps towards measuring the volumetric core collapse supernova (SN) rate using data from the SDSS-II Supernova Survey, a three-season rolling search covering 300 square degrees of the sky. Supernova population models are constructed with various intrinsic magnitude and redshift distributions. Each model is processed by an observation simulator, and properties of the observed SN population are compared to the simulated results. Those simulated model distributions that agree with the data can be integrated to give the core collapse supernova rate.
