The influence of a non-uniformly moving, strongly magnetized plasma on the radiation transport in an accretion column of a neutron star is discussed. The authors derive the diffusion approximation of the radiation transport equation for an anisotropic medium with an inhomogeneous velocity field, including the effects of Doppler shift and aberration. For their calculations they used a mass-density field resulting from hydrodynamical model computations and coherent electron-photon cross sections in strongly magnetized plasmas. The resulting spectra show the great influence of the advection especially in optically thick regions around the cyclotron frequency.
