We used public Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) imaging data to establish a sample of all galaxies with radii >= 11'' and a limiting surface brightness of μ lim(g) >= 26.5 mag arcsec-2 within an area of 228 deg2 using own detection and analysis software. We detected ~ 5200 galaxies fulfilling these criteria. The redshifts for these galaxies were collected both from the SDSS and NED databases. We calculated total and surface photometry for all selected galaxies (10 mag <= g <= 18.5 mag) in 5 bands and determined their ugriz surface brightness profiles. For a subsample of galaxies with cz <= 10000 km s-1 (745 galaxies in total) we determined both effective surface brightnesses and central surface brightnesses μ 0(gri) using bulge/disk fitting routines. This subsample will be used to probe galaxy content of the Local Universe and to study statistical properties of this galaxy ensemble. We are particularly interested in census and properties of low-surface-brightness (LSB) galaxies to characterize their evolutionary state, their properties as a function of environment, and the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function. With our programs we were able to detect LSB galaxies as faint as μ 0(g) = 24--25 mag arcsec-2.
