The topology of the B-field is defined and it is proved that the convective dynamo equation preserves this topology. This theorem is then applied to Hibberd's (1979) theory after making some precise assumptions on the current systems at various epochs. Changes in the theory resulting from the inclusion of diffusion terms are discussed and a partial generalization of the theory to that regime is presented.
