Two new transitions in the IR region - E3Pi-X3D and A3Phi-X3Delta - are
identified on the basis of laboratory studies of the spectrum of TiS.
These two transitions account for the IR absorptions between 1.15 and
1.35 micron observed by Hinkle et al. (1989) in R And and Chi Cyg. It is
concluded that these two stars cannot be regarded as pure type S stars.
