Radial velocities v(TiO) have been measured for three long-period variables (U Aur, U Ori, R Tau) near maximum light, using the rotational lines of the (C3Delta-X3Delta, 3-0 band in the alpha-system of TiO. Comparison against radial velocities derived from the SiO, H2, OH maser radio lines indicates that the optical velocities v(TiO) similarly appear to represent the motion of the star's center of mass.
