Near-surface brightness temperature maps of Titan have been obtained through an analysis of Cassini/CIRS mid-infrared spectra. Utilizing the semi-transparent atmospheric window centered near 520 wavenumbers (19.2 microns), the measured radiances were plotted to produce maps of brightness temperature for approximately one quarter of Titan's surface. Disk-averaged radiances as a function of Titan's rotation derived from ground- based measurements at NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility were also examined for regional and/or temporal variation. Despite nearly uniform ground-based measurements, local variability on the order of 10K is observed in the CIRS measurements in the near-surface environment in support of Courtin and Kim 2002 and other, more recent optical and near-infrared investigations of Titan. While no significant thermal variations suggestive of localized hotspots have been observed, the maps are indicative of significant surface diversity. Courtin, R. and Kim, S. (2002). Planet. and Sp.
