Scientific paper

We present the main properties of tidal dwarf galaxies, a class of
galaxies formed out of tidal material expelled in the intergalactic
medium during collisions of parent galaxies. We point out that tidal
dwarfs offer instances of young galaxies in formation in the nearby
Universe.
