A three-dimensional gyrosynchrotron model has been developed for radio stars. Systematic procedures have been developed whereby the magnetic field structures and energetic electron distributions can be varied, using physical intuition to model stellar coronae with the prescribed flux and polarization spectra. The Australia Telescope Compact Array has been employed to produce two independent fourfrequency continuum radio flux and polarization spectra of MR 1099. The rather flat flux spectrum but changing polarization spectrum of MR 1099 are difficult to reconcile, and impose strong constraints on possible models. Relatively thin shells of radiating electrons in an arcade of magnetic loops reproduce the radio data. Key words: radiation mechanisms: non-thermal - stars: coronae - stars: individual: HR 1099 - radio continuum: stars.
