The relevance of the anthropic principle to the character and viability of SETI efforts is discussed, in the course of a general evaluation of current and prospective threats to continuation of SETI research. Such impediments encompass anthropogenic radiation from earth sufficiently powerful to pollute microwave reception from deep space, cessation of governmental funding, lack of general cultural interest in SETI, and fear of contact with extraterrestrial civilizations.
