THINGS (The HI Nearby Galaxy Survey) aims to map the neutral hydrogen distribution in a representative sample of nearby galaxies at the highest possible quality. This survey is done in tandem with the IR Spitzer SINGS survey and the UV GALEX Nearby Galaxy Survey. The combination of those surveys with the unprecedented quality HI observations of THINGS is already leading to new insights on issues such as the small-scale structure of the ISM, the dark matter distribution and conditions for star formation. We have just completed mapping 35 galaxies in the northern sky at 6'' (~100 pc), <= 5 km/s resolution time. The northern THINGS sample does, however, not adequately sample the full range of galaxy properties and environments. These key objects are available in the southern hemisphere, and we have started a survey to map these at THINGS resolutions. Our survey is now 77 percent complete, and this semester we ask for 8x12h to obtain the missing 23 percent and complete the survey.
