Methods of comparison of the plasma equations of state (EOS) in solar conditions are discussed. The most useful quantity in helioseismic applications is the adiabatic exponent, and its profile is investigated, involving geometric illustration in natural variables - pressure and density. The amount of information which can be obtained about EOS from a profile of adiabatic exponent on an adiabatic curve is studied. The comparison of modern versions of EOS is presented from the point of view of adiabatic profiles.
