The article describes astronomy in the southern hemisphere. Modern telescopes at observatories in Chile, South Africa, and Australia perform important astronomical research. Ancient people in Egypt studied the night sky and legends of the Bushmen showed their early interest in astronomy. Asteroid impact craters are available for viewing in both Australia and Africa.
