The possibility that Beta Lyr comprises a contact binary system is examined, and an eclipsing binary system with the principal component experiencing an expansive phase is inferred. This then accounts for mass transfer to the companion, as the material escaping from the primary slips over the surface of the contact lobe toward the secondary. The secondary may be in a collapsing state; a tenuous ring circling the secondary and in contact with the primary is studied. The Huang model, the Struve model, the slow gravitational effect, a ring reflection model, an ellipsoidal primary model, and models proposing a black hole companion or neutron star companion are considered in relation to Beta Lyr systems.
