This paper contains a review of the development of astrophotography. It is theoretically oriented. Connections of photometric and sensitometric quantities with telescope parameters, atmospheric conditions and photometric characteristics of the observed objects are explored in some detail. Special attention is paid to the physically founded analytical representation of the characteristic curve.
