We present here the results of a detailed X-ray spectral analysis of the Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) belonging to the XMM-Newton Bright Survey (XBS), one of the largest well-defined samples of X-ray selected sources built to date. The availability of good X-ray data and the almost complete optical spectroscopic identifications, allow us to better constrain both the AGN main X-ray spectral components and their evolution across cosmic time.
