Approximately 30% of the scientific observing time of the VSOP mission is devoted to a survey of the 370 brightest radio sources at 5 GHz. This survey is led by scientists in Japan, and it is supported by an international team of scientists at many observatories and institutions. The major goal of the survey is to determine statistical properties of the sub-milliarcsecond structure of the brightest extragalactic radio sources at 5 GHz, in particular, their brightness temperature distribution. Combined with ground observations at many radio frequencies (both single-dish and VLBI), the VSOP Survey will provide an invaluable source list for detailed ground-based studies as well as future space VLBI missions.
