Photometry is presented for 14 new and three of 12 previously discovered variables within the tidal radius of NGC 6388, and for four newly discovered nearby field variables. Four variables of RR Lyrae type are probable cluster members; two additional variables may also be RR Lyrae-type members. A distance of 9.5 kpc is derived for the cluster. NGC 6388 is the cluster of highest metallicity thought to contain RR Lyrae variables. This bulge cluster thus appears to have an unusually blue horizontal branch for its metallicity; one possible explanation is that it is older than its counterparts in the galactic halo.
