We present preliminary R-band light curves for 15 local field RR Lyrae variable stars. The intensity mean magnitudes and light amplitudes are obtained for each star. Using corresponding V-band light curves from the literature and supplemented with new photometry, (V-R) colors at minimum light are determined for a subset of these stars. The use of (V-R) colors at minimum light as a means for measuring interstellar reddening is discussed. From 18 stars with a wide range of metallicities and pulsation periods, the mean dereddened RR Lyrae color at minimum (V-R) light is determined. The rms scatter indicates the precision to determine the interstellar reddening. Any dependence of color on metallicity or amplitude is too weak to be formally detected. This data is useful to calibrate the reddening in the MACHO RR Lyrae databases, taken in the V and R bands.
