The Feinheit function, when formulated from V magnitude and V-I color, is shown to be almost reddening-free when applied to Cepheids with periods 10 - 60 days. If the period of a Cepheid is known, then its distance can be found from a single or a few accurate V and I measurements. The method should have application to the determination of distances in external galaxies, particularly in those where the reddening is unknown.
