XMM observed SGR1900+14 for the first time in September 2005, after almost three years during which no bursts were detected from this source. The measured flux was a factor about 2 dimmer with respect to the historical value of this source. Bursting activity from SGR 1900 resumed few months later, and a XMM ToO carried out in April 2006 showed that the long term fading of the persistent emission was interrupted by the burst reactivation. We propose to observe SGR1900 after a new stretch of quiescence, to investigate the complex correlation between spectral (and timing) variations and bursting activity level in this source, and in SGRs at large. This close monitoring of the X-ray variability will also be useful in connection to our on-going research for the IR counterpart of SGR1900.
