Recently obtained spectrograms imply that RY Sct contains two massive stars embedded in an unusual nebulosity whose spectrum shows exceptionally strong (forbidden Fe III) emission. At least one component is probably H-deficient (or He-rich), which may result from the loss of the H-rich envelope. Rapid rotation is thought to be the cause of this. A modern light curve is required before a complete interpretation of the data can be made.
