We present a series of optical spectroscopic and infrared photometric observations of the Be/X-ray system X Per in 1992-95. Some phenomena in this new emission phase turn out to be unique in comparison with former observations. First, although the V magnitude only recovered its original maximum brightness from 1974 to 1991, the equivalent width (EW) of the H-alpha emission line and JHK magnitudes exceeded the values recorded before. This means that the circumstellar envelope of X Per in the new emission phase is more extensive and denser. Second, we have for the first time observed in X Per that the EW of the H-alpha line increased rapidly while the JHK magnitudes declined considerably. Our optical spectroscopic data support the rotating ring model of the envelope and confirm the existence of the double-ring structure with which the observed unusual phenomena may be fairly well interpreted.
