High resolution spectra of the two components of the visual binary system delta 199 were obtained with IUE. The HR 5999 is a nebular variable whose variability is mainly due to obscuration by circumstellar dust clouds and whose age is estimated at about 700,000 yr while the companion, HR 6000, is a DP star with strong phosphorus overabundance. This association establishes a lower limit for the age of chemically peculiar stars.
